How to Apply an eCert Value After an Order Has Been Placed

You can’t directly apply an eCert to an order after it's been placed—but there’s a simple workaround using a Promo Code.

Follow these steps:

1. Create a Promo Code for the eCert Amount

  • Go to the store where the order was placed.

  • Create a Promo Code for the same amount that should’ve been applied from the eCert.

  • Pro Tip: Name the Promo Code something specific like the customer’s name to make it easy to track later.

2. Edit the Order and Apply the Promo Code

  • Go to Order Manager and open the order.

  • Click Edit Order.

  • Scroll to the bottom and click the pencil icon next to the Promo field.

  • Select the Promo Code you just created.

  • You’ll see a Net Order Difference appear—this should match the Promo Code value.

  • Click Refund in the upper-right corner. This will refund just the Net Order Difference back to the customer’s card.

3. Adjust the Customer’s eCert

  • Head to the eCert page for the store.

  • Locate the customer’s eCert.

  • Adjust the Issued Amount to reflect the reduced balance (subtract the amount refunded via the Promo Code).
