Stripe Tax
Chipply has switched to a new tax system called Stripe Tax. We just want to give you a quick heads-up on what changed and why it's good news for you.
What Changed?
Taxes are now calculated more accurately. In the past, every product in your store was treated the same when it came to tax. Now, Chipply can tell the difference between a t-shirt and a baseball bat, and tax them correctly based on your state's rules.
For example: in Minnesota, clothing isn't taxed but hard goods like bats are. Previously, that distinction had to be managed manually. Now it's handled automatically.
One new thing: Tax Codes on products
Each product now has a "Tax Code" that tells the system what kind of product it is. There are three options:
|
Tax Code |
Example Products |
When to Use |
|
Children's Clothing & Footwear |
Youth tees, kids shoes, youth jerseys |
Apparel that is sized for children |
|
Clothing & Footwear |
Adult tees, hoodies, adult jerseys |
Adult clothing or footwear |
|
General (default) |
Bats, helmets, bags, water bottles |
Everything else, safe default |
We've already set the tax code on your existing products automatically. When you add a new custom product, pick the right code from the dropdown. If you're not sure, "General" is always a safe pick.
Everything else stays the same
- Your tax settings (Auto, Flat Rate, Tax Exempt) work exactly as before
- Your store setup and checkout experience are unchanged
- Your tax reports look the same
- Custom nexus setup
