Dealer Inventory Webinar

Dealer Inventory is one of the most requested features we've ever built, and it's now live in every Chipply account. If you couldn't join us live, the full recording is ready for you:

Melissa Hardwick, our Director of Product, and Elizabeth Welch, one of our Product Designers, walk through the feature from start to finish, followed by one of the busiest live Q&A sessions we've ever had.

Why It's Worth Watching

Dealer Inventory lets you sell the stock you already have on your shelves through your Chipply web stores, using the same inventory thresholds you already know from vendor feeds. Think of it as a vendor feed where you are the vendor. Products turn on and off automatically as your stock goes up or down, and you can even sell through your own stock first before falling back to the vendor.

The webinar is the fastest way to see how all the pieces fit together, from setting up your product library to how it plays out on a live store.

What Was Covered

What Dealer Inventory is (and isn't)
Melissa explains how Dealer Inventory differs from two related features on the roadmap: full inventory management (tracking stock through its whole lifecycle) and Offered Items (bulk actions across products on multiple stores). Neither is here yet, but knowing the difference will answer a lot of questions up front.

The new Products page
A tour of the new Assets > Products page and its three tabs: Chipply, Dealer, and Offered. You'll see how to add products to your dealer library, either by "shopping" the Chipply catalog or creating custom products.

Managing your dealer products
Elizabeth shows the Listing, Inventory, and UPC Codes views, including how to update cost, MSRP, and thresholds globally, how the inventory coverage indicator works, and how to use the color/size grid to enter your stock.

Using dealer products on your stores
How to add dealer products to a store, how to choose between dealer, vendor, and store inventory, and how to combine dealer and vendor inventory so a product stays available after your own stock runs out. You'll also see the Show Remaining toggle, which subtracts sales from your on-hand count throughout the day.

Getting your stock into Chipply
Chris walks through the in-app Dealer Inventory walkthrough, the help articles, and the spreadsheet upload that lets you bring in inventory from another system in one step.

Live Q&A
The team answered questions on topics like:

  • Setting your dealer threshold to zero while keeping a higher vendor threshold on the same item
  • How often to update your inventory, and how often vendor feeds refresh
  • Whether Dealer Inventory integrates with ERPs or Shopify (not yet; it's an export and upload process today)
  • How stock is shared and deducted across multiple stores
  • The difference between store inventory and dealer inventory
  • How UPC matching works on uploads, and what happens without a UPC
  • How purchasing flags dealer products so you can pull from your own stock
  • How abandoned carts release inventory after 15 minutes
